So, it seems Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may truly be done with the US for good, and during their time in the UK, they’re allegedly trying to “relive the greatest moments of their marriage.”
Insiders recently spilled the beans to InTouch Weekly about how their new life is going. And truly, they’ve made the freshest start possible because they allegedly “left behind millions of dollars in possessions and collections to make this move.”
While they are “truly starting over in England,” insiders also claim the pair are working to rekindle the flame by doing their favorite pastime: renovations.
Their Cotswold home is a “fresh canvas for them to work on together. It’s a chance to relive the greatest moments of their marriage – picking out linens and flooring and faucets, doing renovations, working with architects and decorators.”
Insiders added, “This is the stuff that they live for, not being famous or pleasing audiences.”
For those who don’t know, DeGeneres and Rossi met back in 2001 at a Rock the Vote concert. However, they didn’t get together until 2004. When they reconnected in 2004, DeGeneres was with photographer Alexandra Hedison, and Rossi was with singer Francesca Gregorini. However, after they split with their respective partners, they started dating.
They got engaged, and later married in Aug 2008, at their former home in Beverly Hills, Calif; and have been together ever since.
After Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, DeGeneres and Rossi left all of their California properties behind to move to the UK. There has been considerable speculation about the reasons behind their decision: political motivations,avoidance of high taxesin California, and other factors.
Now, they live in the UK, and DeGeneres recently shared an update on how it’s all going. On April 22, DeGeneres shared a super-rare snapshot on her Instagram with the caption reading, “3 things that make me happy: My Wife, A Rainbow, And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow.”
Okay, so you may be wondering: how many homes have they redone and sold? A lot. The answer is a lot, and somewhere in the 20s range, and that’s not including the homes they sold off after moving to the UK. And even so, reports indicate that he actual number could be well into the 60s. So we’re just going to break down the most popular home purchases and sales of theirs!

- 2007: Bought a Hollywood Hills home for around $29 million. They sold to Ryan Seacrest in 2012 for around $37 million.
- 2008: Bought Beverly Hills compound for around $29 million, and again, sold it off in 2012 for around $37 million.
- 2011: Bought Brad Pitt’s Malibu house for around $12 million and sold it the following year for about $13 million.
- 2012: Bought a horse ranch in Hidden Valley for $8.5 million and sold it in 2013 for a little under $11 million.
- 2014: Bought Brody House in Holmby Hills for about $40 million and within the same calendar year, they sold it for $55 million.
- 2015: Bought Beverly Hills villa for $16 million and doubled that price when they sold it two years later.
- 2017: Bought Santa Barbara estate for $18.6 million and sold it off later for an undisclosed amount.
- 2018: Bought Balinese-style Montecito home for $27 million, then they sold it off a year later for a little over $33 million.
- 2019: Bought the Montecito “Salt Hill” estate for $45 million. Sadly, though, they sold it the following year at a loss to a burglar.
- 2020: Bought Montecito “Rancho San Leandro” for $14.3 million and also sold it at a loss.
- 2021: Bought Montecito’s historic “Villa Tragara” for $21 million and sold it later that year for over $35 million.
- 2022: Bought two properties in Montecito and sold them with a combined worth of around $70 million+.
