Tanzania's Tourism Sector Booms: 9% Increase in 2025! (2025)

Tanzania's Tourism Sector Roars Back to Life!

In a surprising turn of events, Tanzania's tourism industry has defied the odds and experienced a remarkable boom in 2025. Despite global challenges, the country's natural beauty and wildlife attractions continue to captivate visitors from around the world.

The latest figures reveal a nine percent increase in tourist arrivals during the first eleven months of 2025 compared to the previous year. And here's where it gets even more impressive: this growth is expected to surge further once the festive season data is accounted for.

Dr. Hassan Abbasi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, unveiled these encouraging statistics during the inauguration of a special wildlife exhibition organized by the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA).

"Tanzania welcomed approximately 173,000 more international tourists from January to November 2025 compared to the same period last year," Dr. Abbasi proudly announced.

But here's the part most people miss: Tanzania's tourism sector has shown remarkable resilience. Even amidst global economic and social challenges, the country's natural wonders and vibrant culture have continued to attract a steady stream of visitors, both international and domestic.

Dr. Abbasi dismissed circulating claims of a decline in tourist numbers, emphasizing that such assertions are misleading and do not reflect the reality on the ground.

"The statistics confirm that our tourism sector is thriving and performing exceptionally well. We anticipate an even more significant increase once the final December figures are tallied by the end of the year," he added.

The PS further highlighted the support for these figures from various tourism authorities. TAWA's statistics, for instance, show an impressive 18 percent increase in international tourists, while domestic tourism has surged by a staggering 40 percent across attractions managed by the authority.

"I could delve into specific destinations like Ngorongoro and others, but my key message remains: the public should not be swayed by false information or discouraged by unfounded claims. Tanzania's tourism industry is thriving!"

The exhibition, themed "Funga Mwaka Kijanja, Talii" (End the Year Smartly, Tour), opened on December 20, 2025, and will continue until January 5, 2026. It forms part of a national tourism promotion campaign targeting the festive season, bringing together nearly all institutions responsible for conservation and tourism.

"Here in Dar es Salaam, we are thrilled to host this unique and large-scale event for the first time," Dr. Abbasi commented.

The exhibition offers a captivating experience, featuring live wildlife displays and conservation-related exhibitions. Visitors can engage with the natural world and learn about Tanzania's rich biodiversity.

Dr. Abbasi urged residents of Dar es Salaam and neighboring regions to visit the Sabasaba Grounds on Kilwa Road to witness the live animals on display, including lions, cheetahs, and warthogs (Kasongo).

"I have personally seen these magnificent creatures, and it's an experience like no other. Many people have only heard stories about Kasongo, but now they have the opportunity to see them up close," he said.

Mr. Mlage Kabange, the Acting Director General of TAWA, confirmed that the exhibition has been a huge success, drawing hundreds of visitors daily who are eager to view a diverse range of animals, from lions and elephants to cheetahs, hyenas, wildebeests, and warthogs.

The exhibition is open daily, with affordable entry fees, making it accessible to all. So, if you're in Tanzania during this festive season, don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore Tanzania's wildlife and support its thriving tourism industry!
